Villa de Arafo
- Etnografía. Alquería -

Located to the south of the urban center of Arafo, in a sector of medians known as 'Costilla ' and about 650 meters above sea level, there are the ruins of the old agustina farmhouse of 'Lo de Ramos '.

Located on a sloping slope that forms an agricultural enclave whose origin is linked to the settlement of a community of Augustinian friars, who in the past cultivated thanks to the organization of the terraced terraced terraces with dry stone walls. Being partially affected by the eruption of the volcano of Las Arenas or volcano of Arafo, in 1705, whose sample can be seen one of the basic washings that is located within the complex.

This Augustinian settlement has its origin after the conquest of Tenerife by Adelantado Fern ndez de Lugo, who on July 10, 1503, granted an important water and land date to the conqueror D. Gonzalo Mej as de Figueroa. In 1509, the adjudication of said data was confirmed by the reformer Lcdo. Don Lope de Sosa. But shortly thereafter, on July 31 of that same year and before the public notary Don Ant n Vallejo, this beneficiary gave these nascent sayings, with the lands on which they flowed, to the Augustinian convent of the Holy Spirit of La Laguna, which from then on being the main owner of the place, a situation that remained for several centuries.

The Augustinians channeled the waters of the source of 'A avingo ' and put Arafo's land into exploitation. These friars transmitted to the Araferos l ...

Due to its poor state of preservation, we will transcribe the article of the official Cornista from Arafo Fari to Pestano, F .: A journey through the architectural and ethnographic architectural heritage of Arafo: its cultural interests and other proposals for opening n.

It is difficult to guess the different constructive modules that comprise it. It consists of a main building u2013the hacienda or alquer a- of rectangular form in which a small or square enclosure destined for chapel is distinguished; the main house and then another space of bigger dimensions destined to stable and / or cellar. The building is bordered on two of its sides by an open corridor of linear structure and covered by a flown of the same nature and of which there are hardly any remains, supported with wooden columns.

Towards the north there are indications of other smaller constructions, made of dry stone, probably goros, stables and pens. There is also a large square pond in which the presence of callaos on its walls stands out, apparently from the coast to meet penances imposed by the monks, and a small terraced tanquilla. In the north end of the set three ovens are preserved to dry figs, although there is evidence that two others disappeared a few years ago.

About 50 meters and following the road of Las Cuesta, in the direction of Arafo, an old ordeal was located with three crosses, already non-existent, to which three new ones have been added, conditioning the base by means of a pile ...
