Biographical notes of Don Domingo P rez C ceres, by Enrique Gonz lez Gonz lez

He was born in the town of Gimar, in the Good Retirement manor, on November 10, 1892. Son of Dom Ngo P Rez Fari and of Juana de C ceres Romero, who was a native of Caracas. He was baptized in the church of San Pedro Apostol of that same town by the priest ec nomo Don Jer Nimo Padilla Morales, who imposed the names of Andr s Avelino Domingo.

At eleven, I entered the Seminary of La Laguna. Bishop Nicol s Rey Redondo gave him the tonsure on May 17, 1914 and was presbytered on September 23, 1915. On October 13 of that year he was appointed coadjutor of the parish of San Pedro in Gimar. Later he was the priest of the same parish. On June 9, 1920 he was transferred to La Matanza, to the Church of El Salvador, as regent priest. In September 1925 he became coadjutor of the parent parish of the Concepcion of Santa Cruz. On the 26th he returns to Gimar, to San Pedro, as an ordinary priest and two years later as a parish priest. On March 2, 1935, he took the place of De n de la Catedral, which Don Enrique Gonz lez Medina vacated. Chapter Vicar for several years and Vicar General of the Diocese in the absence of Fray Albino. On April 26, 1947 P o XII raised him to the dignity of Episcopate in the Di cwesis of La Laguna. He was consecrated bishop on September 21, 1947. He died on August 1, 1961.

On December 8, 1947, Bishop Domingo P rez C ceres was appointed Bishop of the Nivariense Diocese.

On September 21 of the same year to be consecrated as bishop. Mayor of the city was Don Domingo Bello and of the Castle and Slave Mayor of Christ Don C ndido Lu s Garc a Sanjuan.

On 19, the nuncio of SSMonse or Cicognani and the bishops of Cordoba and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria enter the doctors Gonz lez and Mendez Reigada and Pildain. It was ten in the morning when a Te Deum starts in the Cathedral.

Two days later, on Sunday 21, at the touch of dawn, all the churches of the Diocese fly their bells announcing the extraordinary events of the day.

Music bands from all the towns and cities roam the streets performing happy compositions. Shortly after half past seven in the morning, the image of San Pedro Ap stol, patron of the town of Gimar, cradle of the new Bishop Tinerfe, is received in La Laguna.

At half past nine the episcopal consecration of Mr. Domingo P rez C ceres begins, which is sponsored by Mr. Blas P rez Gonz lez, Minister of the Government; by don Francisco garc a esc mez, captain general of the Canary Islands and by don Fernando Beautell Mel ndez to whom the church later distinguished with the pontifical title of Count of Santa Mar to Abona.
