FIESTA DE SANTIAGO APOSTOL (LOS REALEJOS)

The celebrations dedicated to the Apostle Santiago have their origin in the years after the conquest, with the foundation of the temple dedicated in his honor in the Realejo de Arriba. However, during the twentieth century the dovoción undergoes a reversal and those festivities have been moved to a more institutional and religious part. The founding commemoration of Los Realejos, takes special charisma with the transfer of the pendulum of the town by the municipal corporation to the parish temple, the solemn Eucharist gave way to the subsequent procession that runs through the main streets of the Realejo town High. In the last decades of the twentieth century, celebrations take place that arise at the initiative of the neighbors of the street that receives the name of the saint. They had a special significance to the point of building a small chapel and placing a rich sculpture representation of Santiago.
