This property is located on the north slope of the Natural Monument of Monta a de los Frailes, a small pyro-volcanic volcanic cone that acts as a landmark in the landscape. The Sisters of the Purity of the Sea have available since 1921 an educational headquarters in the Realejos, located in one of the houses of the Counts of Seven Fountains, who in 1949 cede these facilities and the usufruct in perpetuity. In 1972, these lands were acquired by the order of Religious initiating the works through a project of the Dominican architect Francisco Coello of Portugal, who studying the serious problems of settlements suffered by the neighbor and former hotel 'Las guilas ', and thanks to the Ripa calculator of the extinct construction company 'Cubiertas y Tejados ' got a stable foundation on which to develop this magnificent work of the brutalist architecture of the second half of the 20th century. The building was built with impressive speed, starting to use part of its classrooms at the end of 1973, being completely completed and operational in 1975. This building set located on the side of a volcanic cone, on which a clearing is carried out, forces us to adopt a series of architectural solutions to adapt the different levels of the platforms made to house the different areas, sports, educational and Religious So it is decided to make a series of containment walls capable of containing the land on which the different platforms are developed, distributing these on three main levels. The upper level houses the access to the chapel, configured with an exempt element, and access to the main building. A second platform gives access to parking and school areas of the main building, while in a third, the larger one, sports areas and outdoor playgrounds are developed. The main building is developed through prismatic elements, configured through the integration of the functional program, developing a module, from the upper level, of three heights, where the residential rooms of the old boarding school are developed, as well as the common areas of the building. Under this level the classrooms are developed, adapted to the slope of the land, by means of the scaling of four rectangular elements, oriented to the north, which by means of a slight displacement of dimensions between classrooms and circulation spaces are able to introduce the light to the corridors at the top of these and leaving the classrooms in elevation ... |
