In 1900 the springs accounted for almost one hundred percent of the available flows. Those springs, however, have been disappearing in recent years. The galleries and to a lesser extent the wells have been the cause of the shortening of the flows. Only springs remain in those places less punished by the galleries.
Prior to the drilling of the galleries there were about 600 springs on the island, which lit about 700 l / sec. The galleries have generated considerable wealth for the municipality of Arafo, so the history of the galleries is an important reference for the municipality.

Prior to the 20th century, the number of galleries was reduced, with the increase in the number of galleries beginning in the twentieth century due to the increase in production processes (bananas, tomatoes, potatoes, etc.).
The evolution in the perforations of the galleries in Tenerife is one of the most heroic chapters in the history of the island, both for the effort made, and for the socioeconomic importance of the island's galleries.

Of the more than 500 years since the arrival of the conquerors on the Island, only in the last 75 years do the springs, fountains and springs lose importance, as the main water supply for the different uses and uses. It will be these who, in the first place, condition and organize the life of the aborigines and then allow the settlement of the first settlers of the Region.
