In 1900 the springs accounted for almost one hundred percent of the available flows. Those springs, however, have been disappearing in recent years. The galleries and to a lesser extent the wells have been the cause of the shortening of the flows. Only springs remain in those places less punished by the galleries.
Prior to the drilling of the galleries there were about 600 springs on the island, which lit about 700 l / sec.
