CASA DE MARCELINO BATISTA

Villa de Arafo
- Arquitectura Civil y Doméstica. Arquitectura Doméstica Urbana -

This building is located in the historic Isabel II street, currently called La Libertad, whose origins in the path correspond to an ancient aboriginal transhumant road that joins the summit and the coast of the G Mar Valley.

This street connects the Plaza de San Juan Degollado with the old Plazuela del Llano, and through it came much of the public and economic life of Arafo running in both directions the cars that communicated this population with the rest of the regions of the island. In it during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries new buildings were erected that housed public functions (casinos, town hall ...) that coexisted with the historic buildings dedicated to the agricultural holdings so present in the municipality.

This house began to be built in 1858, paid in large part for the money from trade with Latin America. Marcelino Batista (he was the builder and initial owner of the farm, later and over time he went on to have different uses, such as school, town hall, as well as electoral college.

Casa de Marcelino Batista

Two-storey rectangular house, which in the area of the main facade, north facade, is trapezoidal to adapt to the orography of the land, while in its west facade it is basically rectangular.

The main front of the house is characterized by marking the two heights both in the main module, and in the annex that has to the left of the axis of symmetry, leaving this small module, a walkable cover by which you can access to the ground floor of the main module.

On the north facade we can see eight openings, with a regular placement, which gives us four openings on the ground floor and four on the upper floor, all these openings are finished with carved stone frames. On the west facade we find three open openings two on the street floor and one on the upper floor.

The open spaces on the top floor in the main front are door windows, with three folding doors, which give access to a small balcony.

The wooden carpentry is of a simple work, without decoration, while the metal carpentry, located on the balconies, is decorated with floral motifs.
