CALLE LA LIBERTAD, Nº 5

Villa de Arafo
- Arquitectura Civil y Doméstica. Arquitectura Doméstica Urbana -

This building is located in the historic La Libertad street, whose genesis in the layout correspond to an ancient aboriginal transhumant road that joins the summit and the coast of the Gimar Valley.

This street connects the Plaza de San Juan Degollado with the old Plazuela del Llano, and through it came much of the public and economic life of Arafo running in both directions the cars that communicated this population with the rest of the regions of the island.

In it during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries new buildings were erected that housed public functions (casinos, town hall ...) that coexisted with the historic buildings dedicated to the agricultural holdings so present in the municipality.

This construction was possibly changing over time, since in its interior, it has elements that characterize it as rural rural architecture, but through its facade we find that it becomes a modern building of the end of the century .

In this house there are goods of interest such as a winery that is maintained in an acceptable state of preservation.

Calle La Libertad, nº 5

Single-storey house, on the main facade, while on the inside of the house it shows us a basement. It is formed by two independent modules, which adapt to the uneven terrain, forming a rectangular plan, which covers the north front of the property. The shape of both modules is trapezoidal following the orography.

In the main module there are six openings perfectly aligned on its upper face, which is perpendicular to the flat roof of the building. In the second module there is a larger door that gives access to the inner courtyard of the property where annexes to the property have been built, in addition to finding old elements such as a winery.

The doors of access to the house are of two swinging leaves, like the windows that are of swinging leaves and glazed type guillotine.

The access door to the patio is formed by three swinging leaves, which allow vehicle access.

The carpenter is simple based on rectangular frames, and both doors and windows have a flat wooden molding. There is also a forge work on the windowsill.

The façade is topped with a cornice that delimits its per meter, and on it rises a factory railing that borders the entire perimeter of the roof.

The cover of both modules is flat, with access by a staircase inside the courtyard.
