Natural space of interest, very important for its hydrological use, and for the ethnographic value of the municipality of Arafo.

The ravine of 'A avingo ' and the water that runs through it, has a very important relationship with the area and its inhabitants since prehistoric times.



Barranco de Añavingo

The springs of water that sprouted in its channel were taken advantage of by the aborigines and once the island was incorporated to the Crown of Castile, the conquerors made an exploitation of them, as it is observed in the distributions in the area of the Adelantado Alonso Fern ndez de Lugo; finished the distributions, Gonzalo de Mej as, transfers water and land to the Augustinian convent of the Holy Spirit, on July 31, 1509, the main owner of the place for several centuries and whose monks channeled the waters of the spring of Avingo, of which they were owners and introduced the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and fruit trees, among which orange, pear, almond, fig and especially vines stood out.

But the fact that mainly links the municipality with this place occurs when, after the eruption of the Volcano of the Sands in 1705, the rest of the springs that were in the area were buried, maintaining only that of Avingo; nevertheless the collapse of a cliff of the ravine buried it in 1745, which made it disappear.

The decomposition was attempted without success, so it is proposed to take an image of St. Augustine to the bottom of the ravine, which is done on September 21, 1751, between prayers and prayers, leaving it in a cave, in that moment, they say, that the time began to change 'rossing the mists from the sea towards the summit '.
