It was donated to the Villa de Teguise by the Canary Islands Society of Montevideo and opened in 1963. The palmer David Fern ndez P rez, professor at the University of La Laguna and director of the Canary Islands, was responsible for its delivery.

It recalls the figure and personality of Alfonso Sp nola vega (Teguise, 1845-San Jos, Uruguay, 1905).

He was the son of melqui des Sp nola B thencourt. He studied medicine in Cdiz licensed in 1869 to return after Teguise where he worked for eight years.

In 1871 he married Rosal to Sp nola Sp nola and in 1878 he marched with his three children to Uruguay, settling in Montevideo. Feeling more necessary in the city of Las Piedras where there was no doctor. There I lived four years and did an effective job during a smallpox epidemic installed under a higueral and attending tirelessly.

Later I resided in the city of San Jos de Mayo where I continued to do a great job to eradicate a smallpox epidemic. He also served as a teacher at the Second Teaching Instruction Center and Second Grade schools and teaches free classes at home.

In 1886, the President of the Republic of Uruguay appointed him a doctor from the Lazaretto of the island of Las Flores, and when there was not enough space, sick people were staying at his home. In 1899, he founded the Dr. Ferr n microbiological anti-viral laboratory in San Jos, seconded by Dr. Jaime Garau, the first to have Uruguay and corresponded with Pasteur.
