MOLINO DE BARRANCO GRANDE

Santa Cruz de Tenerife
- Patrimonio Industrial. Molinos -

This mill restored in 2010, is located in the homonymous neighborhood of Barranco Grande in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

It is a windmill similar to that found in Cuevas Blancas (Santa Mar a del Mar), but unfortunately this is reduced to a few remains after the destruction of the perimeter walls by a mechanical shovel on 27 January 1973.

In 2007, the City Council of Santa Cruz decided to acquire ownership of the mill and later, in 2010, the process of recovering it and its surroundings began.

Like the largest of the windmills in the capital, it will be built in a circular way by means of masonry walls, introducing the wooden mechanism inside.

For its restoration, in the project it was decided to maintain the collapsed exterior structure, and the wooden mechanism of its interior was completely restored, leaving it in sight from the esplanade, both the blades and the machinery.

Some of its old elements, found on the occasion of the works, are arranged around the mill along with information panels, the qualers have suffered acts of vandalism since its restoration.
