The year 1863 was finished, after great efforts to obtain funds for the work, the extension of the pier, what was known as the second section of the pier, with an extension of seventy-five meters. In anticipation of future needs, Paris had been commissioned before completing an orientation lighthouse designed by Henry Lepaute that arrived in Santa Cruz in 1862. The first time it was lit on December 31, 1863, it became the second one. to the luminous one that came into operation in the Canary Islands since two years before another one had been enabled that was warned of the end of the pier of the same South pier still in works. His ricks of light were first fueled by a vegetable fuel that was later changed to oil; The conversion of the energy to the city that the city experienced from 1897 allowed it to definitively incorporate this technique into its use until its function was rendered useless, its light was finally turned off on June 3, 1954 .

When the machine arrived at its destination, a wooden tower was set up, standing at something more than six meters high and ten meters above sea level.
In 1976 it was dismantled and stored in a warehouse owned by the Port. Eight years later, as a tribute to the history of the Port, it was reinstalled at the entrance of the mill ...



Farola del Puerto

It is a sixth-order lighthouse, installed on the dock of the South Pier, between the second and third alignment, at 28 28 u2019 30 u2019 u2019 N. and 16 15 u2019 0 u2019 u2019 W.

The structure of the lamppost tower is wood, hexagonal in shape and light gray-lead gray, it is assembled to a central pole, belonging to the main mast of a sailboat. The tower rises 6.3 meters above the ground, when it was in operation it placed its light at 10.5 meters above sea level. The entrance door and a small window are located on the ground side.

Inside, circling the central post, the spiral staircase allowed the torrero access to the top where the ptica was.

This was protected by an octagonal lantern of 1.60 m in diameter and a height of 1.10 m of glazing, u2018 is formed by eight optical catadri rings in its upper and lower part, and by diometric panels in its central part u2019 (JM Ledesma).

The upper part has a small balcony that surrounds the lantern, and is protected by a bronze railing.

The cover of the lantern is closed by a dome and a cupulino made of copper. At the highest point of the cupulino, a small weather vane is placed.
