The Defensive Coastal Tower of San Juan Bautista, known as Castillo de San Juan or Castillo Negro, was the second most important fortress in the defense of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

In the seventeenth century, during the attack of the English squadron to Cdiz, at the initiative of the Captain General D. Francisco Gonz lez de And a it was agreed with the island council or the construction of a fortification in the vicinity of Caleta of the Blacks.

Every year in the month of July the Recreation of the Gesta of July 25 takes place around this castle, which commemorates the failed attempt of British admiral Horatio Nelson to invade the city and the archipelago lake

This fortification with a characteristic circular shape, is located in a small land taken to the sea, next to the Timo Maritime Park of the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Access to it is done through a drawbridge, which is located on a small pit between the earth and the castle.

Inside, a staircase gives access to the upper esplanade, leaving behind two vaulted rooms on both sides of the building, and a third as the auction.
