It constitutes the main street of the population that articulates the road management of this sector of the city. In its origins it was a small section that reached the North Street. In the 18th century, there was its first extension from that street to the so-called San Roque (now Su rez Guerra). Its second expansion was propitiated by the interests of the Urban Building Construction Society in urbanizing (land in disposition to build) this area, joining this way to the Military Hospital square (today, Weyler Square). After the paralysis of the project due to the events of '68, in 1872 the idea promoted by the Urban Building Construction Society is resumed. The project was prepared by Francisco Aguilar and consisted of regularizing the Plaza del Hospital. The project prepared by Francisco de Aguilar was subject to various objections since it lacked the essential requirements of guidance, grade, memory and other details, as established by the Royal Order of December 19, 1859. In addition, The new part of Castillo Street did not provide enough width as required by Article 476 of the Municipal Ordinances. For these irregularities the City Council agreed to send the file to the municipal architect Vicente Armi or to sign again the plan of extension of the street of the Castle and its transversal ones, with adjustment to the Royal Order of 1859, attending to the plan of widening of the population that has risen to avoid damaging the harmony of the urban context.
