The list of paid wages and materials is saved on November 22, 1949 to make the half fountain of the courtyard in front of the river, which still prints a natural charm at the entrance. But that was not the end of the external arrangement as gardens. In February 1959 the municipal architect of La Laguna, Carme lo Rodr guez Hern ndez, presented the project of urbanization and exterior finishing of the university headquarters, it was pointed out that the interior functional solution was as important as that of its exterior appearance, given its location next to the access roads to the city and the rest of the Island. However, it also foresaw the possibility of expanding the complex, so that it would not be hindered by its trace, relative to three basic points: a) The low lands will be conditioned for a park, with a central promenade along the axis of the main building, ending in a platform with a very low and two access doors, as the first perspective from the Stone Cross , which marks the traditional entrance to La Laguna. b) The perspective from the street of Heraclio S n chez is marked by a gate-gate, open on the wall. c) In front of the avenue of the Trinity a porch of arcades will be organized on the sidewalk, with a wide entrance for cars and peato nes. However, the university campus was not restricted to the group inaugurated in January 1953, as the growing number of students enrolled was forcing reforms to install classrooms and offices at the level of a third floor, without obstructing the facade. Likewise, in order to receive part of the then Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, a new construction communicated with the main complex had to be erected through a bridge-like corridor, according to plans by Canarian architect Jorge Toledo D az-Llanos, who drew a three-storey building, taking advantage of the uneven terrain with another three of lower surface. It began to rise in 1967 with a smaller number of floors, but the implantation of Geography studies forced to lift one more, so that the group hosted sixteen classrooms u2014 each with a surface ranging between 40 and 200 seats u2014, in addition to nine departments u2014 with offices, teachers' cabinets, seminary and library u2014, as well as secreting and boardroom. In October 1970, with the new course, students and teachers were already installed in this place. A few years later, the architect Felipe Hodgson Ray was commissioned to give the ensemble a more ornamental aspect, adding semicircular elements on the outside as a simple decoration. Inside, the characteristic adaptations were produced to meet the new structures of the departments, suppressing libraries, duplicating offices, etc. |
