PLAZA DE SAN CRISTÓBAL (PLAZA DE LA MILAGROSA)

San Cristóbal de La Laguna
- Espacios Urbanos. Plazas -

The streets of Consistorio and Santo Domingo, lead down below in the Plaza de San Crist bal, which all of them well known as the Tank of Below and which become one of the geographical limits of the lagoon hull. In this area there is a bridge that crossed the ravine that runs through there, and that was covered to build on the square.

Its name derives from the hermitage that, in front of it, exists under the advocacy of San Crist bal patrón de la ciudad (see related files), and built at the beginning of the 16th century where, it is assured, the remains of Fernando Guanaterme, last Aboriginal Mencey King of Galdar and who intervened in the conquest of the island of Tenerife.

Modernly, and after the monument to the Miraculous Virgin was erected, this area is also called the Plaza de la Milagrosa . (see related file)
