Bust erected in memory of the poet majorero Domingo Juan Manrique (1869-1934) on the initiative of the journalist Leoncio Rodr guez Gonz lez. Sponsored by the City Council of San Crist Bal de La Laguna and funded by popular subscription, it was made by the sculptor Miguel Márquez Pe ate and opened in the Plaza del Adelantado on January 27, 1952.

Domingo Juan Manrique was a calligraphy professor at the Institute of the Canary Islands. Feeo and sentimental, according to Alvarez Cruz, participated in all the poetic certifications of the islands, highlighting the poem El Mencey de Abona from among all his production.

Monumento a Domingo Juan Manrique

The bust is made of bronze in life size, with dimensions of 70x49x33 cm and represents the poet almost up to his waist, cut flat at its base and sides and dressed in formal clothing.

The bust rests on a pedestal lined with a 185x84x62 cm stone paneling that bears his name, a dragon tree framed by a shield, and edges decorated with Canarian flora.

On the pedestal you can read the inscription:

"corner of my peace, square of my loves"
