In La Laguna, the source called Madre del Agua was originally used to be washed, not far from the current location of the laundries, heading north, on the edge of the lake or pond from which it was supplied, even when, provisions contained in the ordinances prohibit it an. It is logical to think about the extreme care of the different provisions in preserving this place of water supply, especially when those from Tegueste and Las Mercedes had not been channeled in the first decades of the 16th century. The water from Madre del Agua is channeled, in this same century to the pillar located in the vicinity of the convent of San Francisco where the laundry room and the missing San Francisco tank are currently located. The provisions prohibiting the washing of clothes in the vicinity of Madre del Agua are continuous and are repeated throughout the sixteenth century (1527, 1547, 1575), which explains, as already said, that the regulations in this regard are not complied with Oh, this activity continues to develop. It is for this reason that the city council decided in 1610 the adequacy of a laundry with supply from Madre del Agua project that finally failed to be implemented. The idea is taken up again in 1625 but, this time, with water supply from the aforementioned San Francisco tank or u201 Large tank ', at the back of the convent, next to the bridge. |

u201 The laundry rooms ' are located on an irregular plot facing the Camino de las Mercedes, bordering on the left, as you look at the front, with a canal, on the right with a small street or serventia and on the bottom with the back of a property dedicated to housing. All its perimeter is fenced with a blind lower body and upper locks, except for the bottom of the enclosure, locks all its height. Access is verified by the Camino de las Mercedes through a double leaf gate. Inside, occupying the left side of the enclosure, two closed buildings stand out. One, enjabegado, with access door and wooden windows, covered with tile and skylight, which keeps the laundry. Another, near and near the confluence of the road closures of the Camino de las Mercedes and the serventia, destined to a toilet for individual use and with an external appearance analogous to the first. Attached to the first one is a stone pylon and a massive prism stone that is attached to both the building and the pylon. The rest of the space is open, highlighting in its route an area of irregular and delimited layout on its edge by a wall, which is attached to the backside of the plot, a palm tree and a black lamo, with a canter tree at elevated above ground level. |
