Bust made by the sculptor Francisco Borges Salas (1901-1994), commissioned by the students of the University of San Fernando and financed by popular subscription.

It was made between 1931 and 1933 for placement in the Plaza de La Junta Suprema in the city of La Laguna.

Jos Tabares Barlett (1850-1921) was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife but from a young age he went to live in La Laguna, city where he became mayor. He was a gentleman of King Alfonso XII.

Bust made of bronze, measuring 58x37x31 cm, resting on a marble-plated pedestal measuring 242x105x60 cm.

It has the following inscriptions engraved in the marble:
