The source of the Plaza del Adelantado de San Crist bal de La Laguna, installed in 1869, was acquired by Tom s de Nava-Grim n and P rez de Barradas, VII Marqu s de Villanueva del Prado for 18,797 francs, and replaced a previous one of local stonework The marble fountain was commissioned to Marseille in 1868, although possibly its origin was Italian, it is next to the fountain of the Weyler square of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, installed in 1899, one of the most significant large marble sources within of the cultural heritage of the island of Tenerife.

It is installed in the Plaza del Adelantado, giving ornamental meaning to this environment, which houses the most significant buildings in La Laguna: Courts, Recova (currently demolished), Hermitage of San Miguel, Convent of Santa Catalina, City Hall, Building Telefonica, Nava Palace, Casa Anchieta and Hotel Nivaria.

The Fountain located above the level of the square by two steps, is made of marble and weighs about thirty tons divided into four overlapping elements or bodies.

BODY 1: In the lower part a concave cup topped with convex moldings rises on a thin basement. In the center there is a polygonal pillar of decreasing size that constitutes the axis of the source; Around it the whole decorative program will revolve.

BODY 2: It is decorated with four columns of rich order that support the second cup, smooth and decorated with four heads in the shape of a head.

BODY 3: The second section, following the characteristic of the classical art of superimposing the orders in the same work, has slender columns of rden jico that supports the upper vessel, consisting of four shells following the guidelines in classical art and Renaissance.

BODY 4: Finally there is the golden top pillar with four faunal heads and, above, the nfora with which this magnificent neoclassical specimen culminates.
