ERMITA DE SAN LÁZARO

San Cristóbal de La Laguna
- Arquitectura Religiosa. Ermitas -

Founded in 1508, and destined, according to the agreements of the Cabildo, to welcome the sick of the evil of San L zaro. It was originally located on the Cruz Grande, from where Pedro de Vergara moved, a few years later, to the place he occupies today, on the road between La Laguna and Tacoronte. This powerful character left his will to the City Council, who did not accept it, passing his care to the descendants of Vergara. In the middle of the 17th century the hermitage had to be practically rebuilt. Its maintenance was abandoned, being in 1857 completely in ruins. Later it was rebuilt again, and in 1861 he was blessed. In 1963 the low choir was dismantled to build a wooden stand instead.

Inside we find a simple and poor hermitage. In the altarpiece of the main altar an old carving of the employer is placed next to a mural painting. There is also a dress image of Nuestra Sera de Candelaria.

On one of the side walls of the nave, there is a polychrome wooden altarpiece, with San Jos as a relief.
