PEDRO GONZÁLEZ GONZÁLEZ (CARTEL DEL CARNAVAL 1986)

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE
- Bienes Muebles. Pintura -

The 1986 carnival poster was signed by another of the great artists, from the second half of the 20th century, in the Canary Islands, Pedro Gonz lez Gonz lez (La Laguna, 1927-). With respect to the posters of the two previous editions, also signed by leading artists, the pictorial composition continues to occupy almost all of the poster space, but with some variant. The text, in Pedro's poster, appears again in the lower band, and also in the upper part, in addition to the usual Carnival texts, repeated in addition to the word carnival, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the dates on which The parties are celebrated. Leader of the renewed tinerfe group or Our Art, emerged in 1963, Pedro Gonz lez became a reference of the new artstas with his abstract series Icerse and Cosmoarte, changing, on the same dates he signed the carnival poster, to a expressionist figuration. Of the 84, 85 and 86 years are some paintings by Pedro of the title figure, others with the title of Head and the series Women. Pedro composes the figure, almost explicitly, of a mask, or person who camouflages itself behind a mask, which he crowns with a sui generis hairstyle, taken from a landscape, on which the Teide peak stands, symbol par excellence of the island of Tenerife.
