Macla (Eduardo Gregorio)

We observe a large volume, a large block formed in turn by six interlocking quadrangular-shaped farts in parallel, fitted rather orthogonally to each other. A large block of well-polished concrete, of pure lines that magnify if possible the grandeur and solidity of this piece collides on the other hand because it seems to be suspended and about to fall from one moment to another. As a curiosity, and according to his own statements, he takes as a model, a toy from his childhood.

Macla (Eduardo Gregorio)

Eduardo Gregorio was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1903. After having completed high school, he alternated his career with his love of wood carving, a specialty in which to reach a high level. Student of La Escuela Luj n P rez, of which he ends up being director of the center. He collaborates with Nstor Mart n-Ferndez de la Torre in the wooden ornamentation of the P rez Gald s Theater, which had been partially destroyed after a fire before. In his little more prolific, he moves to Girona, and there through the painter and critic Rafael Benet, he enters the artistic and intellectual world of Barcelona and Madrid. In 1950, he exhibited a set of bathrooms and alabras in Gaspar in which the theme revolved around the female figure; Their lines were simple, sensual and stylized. During the period he lived in Tangier (1950-1955), his style undergoes an important turn, an important level of abstraction that still suggests the human figure in its forms.

He participated in the III Hispano-American Biennial, in which he participated with El Angel who announced the spring, a work without aesthetically speaking.

He emigrated to Venezuela and there he continued with his pedagogical work; while developing an important ceramic production, conceiving new forms with great mastery in the technique in stoneware, for which it receives international recognition.

His work undergoes a shift towards geometric construction when he comes into contact with constructive-kinetic artists.
