The Anaga Massif is a mountainous formation of the island of Tenerife, which is located in the northeast of it and which also represents a very important historical enclave. It covers three municipalities: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Crist bal de La Laguna and Tegueste. With an estimated age of between 7 and 9 million years, it is one of the oldest areas of the island being a tertiary massif surrounded by basics and basics and a dense layer of dikes. It extends from East to West, following the structural line of the main volcanic mission centers. The relief is steep and rugged, with small and narrow valleys in the form of u2018V u2019 separated by sharp ridges reaching its maximum height in the Roque Cruz de Taborno with its 1,024 m., Making it a landscape where you can reach elevation differences of up to 500 m. Due to its location with respect to trade winds and the so-called u2018mar of clouds u2019, the massif stands out for being an area especially wet and rich in biodiversity of flora and fauna, among which stands the Monteverde: laurisilva and fayal-heather. Sheltering about 20 species of laurel in this territory, being fundamental for the formation of soils, water recharge and as prevention of erosions. It must be said that this ecosystem is a relic of those that existed millions of years ago in North Africa and Southern Europe. Today they are only found in the Macaron Sica region of the Canary Islands, Madeira and Azores archipelago. |
