MIGUEL AROCHA (CARTEL DEL CARNAVAL DE 1998)

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE
- Bienes Muebles. Pintura -

In the 1998 edition there is a new alternation in the authors of the carnival cartel. This edition returned to correspond to a local artist, Miguel Arocha , one of our most outstanding artists, portrait author, and notable professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of La Laguna, of which he was his dean. Miguel's poster could go through one of his paintings, if it weren't because at the base of his composition he has the text CARNAVAL 98, written by hand. The storm that seems to be unleashed, behind the window that Miguel has opened to us, to contemplate it, does not leave, on the other hand to fit in the allegory of the carnival of that year, the Middle Ages . To add in first, the comment that Miguel Arocha himself makes of his work and his intentions. He tells us that he intends to highlight the Carnival environment, with the scenic beauty and the benefactor climate of the island of Tenerife, disguising the land of the sea and the sea of land. It clarifies that everything revolves around a wave shaped like Teide, which at the same time represents a rumbera suit, and drags carnival elements on its skin, such as the fan, culminating with a woman's face, which takes shape in the breaking foam , with two conch shells per mask. Set, finally, solved in a silver wrapping paper, which is offered to santacruceros and visitors.
