The sculpture belonged to the I International Exhibition of Street Sculpture was a cultural event that took place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife between December 1973 and January 1974. Organized by the Official College of Architects of the Canary Islands, it was one of the best exhibitions of abstract art, consisting of large-scale works and remarkable visual and aesthetic power. |

Sculpture is shaped as an unfolded cardboard box. The author explores the use of the plane in sculpture, this being a constant in the artist's work. On a base of concrete of little height the sculpture is raised that, as its name indicates, refers to the man. Mar a Sim n was a contemporary sculptor and plastic artist, born in 1922 in Tucum n (Argentina). The concept that represents the u2018box u2019 symbolizes in his works what the human being discards. This artistic resource created by Sim n is repeated throughout his exhibition trajectory: 'Soy a cartonera del arte ', as defined in an interview conducted in 2005 (Clar Clar newspaper, 9/1/2005). The concept was born from her experiments collecting cardboard boxes in the streets of Paris during her stay in the French city, as she says : The box is not a found object, but the discovery of a structure. It is the symbol of everything that man abandons after using, trying to save his spirit, which is essential (Diario Clar n, 9/1/2005). In addition to recognitions and distinctions in different countries, Sim n receive the Bronze Medal of the European Academy of Fine Arts. |
