EDIFICIO HARDISSON

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE
- Arquitectura Civil y Doméstica. S.XX y Posterior -

Enrique Rumeu de Armas residential building built in 1937. It has four trapezoidal and curved chamfer floors with a symmetrical distribution of the openings, separated by pilasters that run through the entire facade and asses with certain allusions to naval architecture which stands out more with the tower n in the shape of a bow. It is a classicist rationalist work of the few examples of Rumeu since he left that language very soon.

Edificio Hardisson

Triangular volume with curved corner. Equal facades, symbolic by axis around the corner. Access to the building is through the corner, where the basement is continuous and decorated with horizontal moldings. It ends with two giant columns that flank the main entrance. The basement is followed by a continuous and continuous two-level flown band, which is set back in the corner while continuing to curve. This volume has a clear horizontal definition, given by the continuous windows, framed in perimeter moldings that reinforce the meaning. The facades are symbolic in themselves; a rectangular sector to the recessed center is divided by pilasters into four vertical steps. Multiple design details: corner windows, circular windows and horizontal windows with narrow vertical divisions. Particularly on the corner, the volume grows one level, always with compositions that highlight the horizontality and envelope. Elements of Interest: The corner resolved with curved chafl n.
