ENRIQUE GONZÁLEZ BETHENCOURT (CARTEL DEL CARNAVAL 1992)

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE
- Bienes Muebles. Pintura -

In the year in which almost everything had to do with the celebration of the V Centenary of the discovery of America, the carnival posters returned to the local area, after the meltdown of the Mel Ramos orbit of the 1991 cartel. The author chosen this time, Enrique Gonz lez Bethencourt (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1924-2010), was one of the most emblematic characters of the chicharrero carnival. Director of the historic and laureate Afilarmica NifuNifa, the very popular FuFa, Enrique, or Quique for the carnivals appeared before all as a fundamental figure in the rescue of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. We highlight, then, that carnival facet of Enrique, to the point of having been recognized with a bronze sculpture, to his person, installed in the central and carnival Plaza del Principe de Santa Cruz, in May 2013. Enrique developed also other artistic facets, such as cartoonist and watercolorist.
