The Plaza de La Paz housed the first municipal cemetery. Formerly it was common to use churches as a burial place. At the end of the eighteenth century, ensuring the improvement in hygiene and public health, burial in churches was prohibited, a measure with which, on the other hand, the clergy were less power. In Arona it will not be until the second quarter of the 19th century, when the first funerary enclosure is built, but due to the risks it posed for the population, both due to its proximity to the houses, and due to the type of existing soil, a new cemetery in Montaña Fria.
