After the conquest, the land and water distributions of 1625 favored Ant n Dom nguez el Viejo and his son, who built their homes in the Houses of Altavista, on the current town and decided to build the hermitage of San Antonio Abad. Thus they were responsible, without knowing it, of a new population center that, until then, was under the jurisdiction of Vilaflor. Arona is constituted as a municipality 1798 when in that town the first town hall is constituted. The Historic Complex of Arona, has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest on April 3, 2006. The perimeter of the declared complex comprises the sectors with the greatest heritage value in the urban area of Arona, whose main axes correspond to Duque Street of the Tower and Dom nguez Afonso Street, and whose center represented by the Plaza del Cristo de la Salud with the Church of San Antonio Abad. From the foundation of the original hermitage in the seventeenth century, the house or will develop slowly, taking into account the harsh environmental and living conditions in the south of the island, articulating different constructions, whose manifestations Today they do not go back beyond the 19th century, with some exceptions. The architectural typologies present in the hull show, in large part, the features of traditional architecture, although modified by the stylistic currents that are imposed throughout the nineteenth century. These are, in general, spacious homes, organized around a central courtyard, with rooms connected by corridors, categorized in the Guide of the Historical Complex of Arona as Traditional Rural Architecture. The variations offer a symmetrical distribution of gaps in the facade, with a predominance of sash windows, absence of balconies (there is only a house with a balcony at the Casa de los Baute). There is a variety of houses covered with tile or roof, this last one is very characteristic of the buildings in the south of the island, the flat roof in the main cracks and the finishing of the facade being frequent by means of a mason parapet a. These show the sobriety typical of an area traditionally moving away from the centers where external influences curdled. In the set they alternate houses of two heights, linked to the more affluent rural bourgeoisie, with central or lateral patio, delimited by open galleries, with a distribution of dependencies characteristic of the Canarian domestic architecture.
