Before the conquest there was already an important aboriginal population settled in the grounds of what is now Arona. But it is since in 1625 Ant n Dom nguez, 'el Viejo ', almost all the lands from Los Cristianos to Los Quemados, and his son was established in the 'asitas of Altavista ', on the outskirts of the current n cleo, and founded the hermitage of San Antonio Abad, when it is considered that the history of its settlement begins. The house of Altavista is a dispersed population center, in which we can observe the typical model of the popular Canarian rural buildings. The best example is observed in 'lasta de altavista house ', building well preserved in part, since only a part of its plant is restored. The first meetings, secret and somewhat conspiratorial, took place between Lieutenant Captain Agust n Gonz lez Bethencourt, son-in-law Jos Antonio Hern ndez Montesinos and other members of the then bourgeois to rural aronera, to begin the segregationist process which culminated in 1796 with the recognition of the hitherto hermitage aronera as a parish church of San Antonio Abad.
